Westfarms Mall

The WestFarms Mall is 7 miles southwest of downtown Hartford, near the intersection of I-84 with Route 9, between Farmington and Hartford. The mall has 1.3 million sq. ft. The WestFarms mall has almost 160 stores and services. The West Farms mall has 14 quick-food eateries and 5 full-service restaurants. Westfarms Mall is anchored with Macy’s, which has 2 locations, JC Penney, Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom. Parking at WestFarms is free and there are plenty of parking spaces. However it may be a little bit hard to find a place especially near Macy’s. What is notable about its parking lot is that it is environmentally friendly – it’s all covered by grass. The mall offers no garage parking. There is no valet parking available.

The Westfarms Mall is open from 10:00 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday. On Sunday the mall is open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but the main entrance near Macy’s is open from 7:00 am for mall walkers. At Westfarms, it is said that the police makes at least 1 arrest per day. There are lots of shoplifters. Westfarms is a 2-floor mall and is renowned for its airy courts. The mall has no open-air spaces. The mall is considered rather upscale and its designers clearly set out to make this clear, as opposed to other pocket-friendly similar locations.

The mall is quite family-friendly, as it offers family restrooms and the possibility to rent strollers. Westfarms Mall does not have a movie theatre. Being one of the first malls in the area, Westfarms Mall is a destination itself. There are no notable attractions nearby other than Central Connecticut State University (where I went to school!). The mall was built in 1974, but has been expanded twice since then. The Taubman Corporation of Bloomfield Hills is the owner of this mall. There is no information about what was there before the mall The mall offers lots of job opportunities at the stores, as well as the possibility to apply for mall jobs.
